Marine Collagen

Improves skin hydration and elasticity, supports joint comfort and mobility, strengthens hair and nails.

Key Function

Structural protein, supports connective tissues.

What it's used for

Skin elasticity, joint health, hair and nail strength.

Key Benefits

Improves skin hydration and elasticity, supports joint comfort and mobility, strengthens hair and nails.

Science Behind It

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, providing structural support to connective tissues like skin, bones, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. Marine collagen is derived from fish and is primarily Type I collagen, which is prevalent in skin, bones, and tendons. When ingested, collagen peptides are absorbed and stimulate the body's own collagen production, leading to improvements in skin hydration, elasticity, and joint function.

Vitamin C

Boosts immunity, essential for collagen formation, powerful antioxidant, aids iron absorption.

Key Function

Antioxidant, collagen synthesis, immune function.

What it's used for

Immune support, skin health, wound healing, antioxidant protection.

Key Benefits

Boosts immunity, essential for collagen formation, powerful antioxidant, aids iron absorption.

Science Behind It

Vitamin C is an essential water-soluble vitamin that acts as a potent antioxidant, protecting cells and tissues from oxidative damage by neutralizing free radicals. It's also a crucial cofactor for enzymes involved in collagen synthesis, which is vital for skin, blood vessels, bones, and cartilage. Furthermore, it supports various immune cell functions, enhances iron absorption, and is involved in neurotransmitter synthesis.

Marine Collagen + Vitamin C | 300g by thecary

thecary's Marine Collagen + Vitamin C delivers premium hydrolysed Type 1 marine collagen peptides paired with naturally sourced Vitamin C — which contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, bones, cartilage, gums and teeth.

Our marine collagen is sourced from sustainably caught wild fish and hydrolysed into low-molecular-weight peptides for optimal absorption and bioavailability. Unflavoured and neutral, it mixes easily into water, smoothies, coffee, juice or porridge.

Made in the UK in an FSSC 22000 certified facility. GMO-free, free from artificial colours, sweeteners and fillers. 300g jar provides a 30-day supply taken once daily.

What is marine collagen?

Marine collagen is a protein extracted from the skin and scales of fish — most commonly Type 1 collagen, which is the same form that makes up roughly 90% of the collagen in human skin, bones, tendons and ligaments. Compared with bovine (cow) or porcine (pig) collagen, marine collagen has a smaller molecular weight, which is one reason it's often described as more bioavailable.

Why hydrolysed?

Hydrolysis is a process that breaks collagen down into shorter chains called peptides. Unhydrolysed collagen is too large for the body to absorb intact — hydrolysis allows the peptides to pass through the gut wall and circulate to where the body needs them.

What thecary's Marine Collagen + Vitamin C supports

Skin, hair and nails. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin. Marine collagen provides the amino acid building blocks — glycine, proline and hydroxyproline — that the body uses for protein synthesis.

Joint and bone support. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones, cartilage, gums and teeth. Type 1 collagen is the dominant collagen type in bone matrix and the dermis layer of skin.

Antioxidant defence. Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Immune function. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Energy and reduced fatigue. Vitamin C contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Why marine collagen over bovine?

Marine collagen tends to be Type 1 dominant — the same type that makes up the bulk of skin, hair, nails and the surface layer of bones. Bovine collagen contains a mix of Type 1 and Type 3, which is more relevant for muscle and gut tissue. For people specifically focused on skin and hair benefits, marine collagen is the more targeted choice. It's also a better fit for those who avoid bovine products on dietary, religious or environmental grounds.

Sustainability

Our marine collagen is sourced from sustainably caught wild fish, using parts of the fish (skin and scales) that would otherwise be discarded as a by-product of the food industry. This makes marine collagen one of the more environmentally responsible animal-derived proteins available.

How to take Marine Collagen + Vitamin C

Take one scoop (10g) daily, mixed into water, juice, smoothies, coffee, herbal tea or porridge. The powder is unflavoured and dissolves easily in cold or warm liquids. Most people take it in the morning, but it can be taken at any time of day.

For best results, take consistently for at least eight to twelve weeks. Collagen synthesis is gradual — visible changes in skin, nails and hair tend to appear over months rather than weeks.

Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Contains fish — not suitable for those with fish or seafood allergies. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical supervision, consult your GP before use.

FAQ

What is marine collagen and what does it do?

Marine collagen is a protein extracted from fish skin and scales — most commonly Type 1 collagen, the same form that makes up around 90% of human skin and bones. It provides the amino acids your body uses to produce its own collagen, and is paired with Vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation for skin, bones, cartilage, gums and teeth.

When is the best time to take marine collagen?

Marine collagen can be taken at any time of day. Many people take it in the morning with breakfast or in their coffee, but consistency over weeks and months matters far more than the exact time.

How long does it take to see results from marine collagen?

Most people see changes in skin, hair and nails after eight to twelve weeks of daily use. Collagen synthesis is gradual, and the body needs sustained intake of amino acid building blocks before visible changes appear.

What's the difference between marine collagen and bovine collagen?

Marine collagen is mostly Type 1 — best suited to skin, hair, nails and the surface of bones. Bovine collagen contains both Type 1 and Type 3, which is also useful for muscle and gut tissue. Marine collagen has a smaller molecular weight, often described as more bioavailable.

Is hydrolysed marine collagen better than regular collagen?

Hydrolysed collagen has been broken down into shorter peptides that the body can absorb directly through the gut wall. Non-hydrolysed collagen is too large to absorb intact, so it offers significantly less benefit when taken orally.

Is thecary's marine collagen sustainable?

Yes. Our marine collagen is sourced from sustainably caught wild fish, using parts (skin and scales) that would otherwise be discarded as food-industry by-products.

Can vegetarians or vegans take marine collagen?

No. Marine collagen is derived from fish and is not suitable for vegetarian or vegan diets. There are no true vegan collagen products — only "collagen-supporting" plant-based alternatives that provide nutrients (like Vitamin C) the body uses to make its own collagen.

Can I take marine collagen during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Marine collagen is generally regarded as safe, but as with any supplement during pregnancy or breastfeeding, we recommend consulting your GP before starting.

Can I take marine collagen with other supplements?

Yes — marine collagen pairs particularly well with our NMN 500mg (cellular vitality), Biotin 5,000μg (hair, skin and nails), and Vitamin B Complex (energy and overall metabolism).
